The term government accountability refers to the public official, of the government that have an obligation to explicate their decision and action to their people. The government accountability help to ensure the public official is answerable and reachable to the citizens. Government accountability is the most significant point for the citizen of each country, that they has the duty to response to any activities that happens inside the country to their people. Noting that, those people has choose to vote for the political party that they believe to have high responsibility in leading the society as well as the country. In this sense, the term government accountability is count to as part of democracy.
In Thailand; however, the group of rights activist and the International Commission of Jurists are demanding for a better account for the human rights record, in the cases of forced disappearances and extrajudicial abuses. (Corben, 2014). The ongoing violence has been charges include security forces’ actions that lead to the human rights abuse in Southern Thailand. Base on a report from Human Rights Watch was shown the failure of the formal Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in accountable for the past abuses that lead to the public protests in Bangkok between the Red shirt movement and Yellow shirt activists. This protest is believed to cause by the amnesty bill.Yingluck’s government faced rising unrest when they try to pass forgiveness for former Thansin government members as well as allowed former Prime Minister Thanksin to return to Thailand. But the proposal was later on awakened the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) protestors and they organized in Bangkok calling for an end to the Thaksin regime that they believed to be the most corruption regime in Thailand history. In 2010, at least 90 people died and more than 2, 000 were injured under the leadership of Abhisit Vejjajiva in which cause by the political violence, resulting from the use of lethal force by soldiers (“Using APA,” 2014). Within this act of violence, the Red Shirt activists were also was also responsible for this deadly arm attack during that time of period. An investigation from the court has found out that, there are 15 of the victims were shot dead by the soldiers that acting under the orders of the Center for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) which set up to dead with the mass protest in Bangkok in 2010. This act of violation has been charged to the Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and the Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban in premeditated murder based on command responsibility (“Using APA,” 2014)
“This Thailand that is now applying for a seat at the human rights council, I do not think the country deserves that status at all if it continues to believe in lawlessness, if it continues to believe in impunity, instead of justice, accountability and respect for human rights," Sunai Phasuk (Corben, 2014)
In Cambodia, Human rights issue has became a concerned to the world. In 2014, an Anti- government protests were demonstrated to Demands to raise the minimum wage to 160$ per month and anger at Vietnamese influence in Cambodia have also contributed to this protest. In a statement, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) spokesman, Rupert Colville, denounced the “disproportionate use of force by law enforcement officials responding to protesters in Cambodia” and called for an investigation to the killing of five and wounding of at least 42 protesters by military police (Crothers, 2014). Later on, the government of Cambodia has announced the raise of minimum wage in garment sector to 128$ from the current salary of 100$. However, on November 2014, a direct meeting with Prime Minister Somdach Hun Sen with the ministry of labor led to the raise an additional 5$ to the 128$ (Teehan, 2014).In addition, in June 2015 more than 200 Vietnamese and Chinese people were arrested in Phnom Penh after it was discovered that they had no relevant document, including passports, or other document to allow them to legally work in Cambodia (Seangly, 2015)
In this sense, it shows that the government of Cambodia has their responsibility to their people, even though the process might take time to complete.
